Day 1

It is raining, and is sooo cold and windy. I am staying at a friend's house, and the train zooms by the window every five minutes, so I didn't sleep that well. Today I ended up on a bus near the ghetto hospital. A man came on with two prosthetic legs, one he was wearing and the other was under his arm. I went to the Field natural history museum, here are some pictures:

Chicago!
Dino at the Field

Strange mouse type creature.

Diorama!
Evil hawk
Deer with fangs!
Creepy bat.
Weird bird of paradise.
Smell funny?
Lots of dead birds.
The oldest bat ever!
Inner workings of strange flower.
Cacao pods.
Sexy lady.
This meteorite fell through this trailer.

Dude... the natural world is nasty. Thank god we can use the threat of taxidermy to keep them in line.

Cool pictures, Shannon!

Just so you know that pick of the "cacao pod" is not the true cacao pod, but rather an immature version of a close relative Theobroma bicolor that is called pataste in the Aztec language Nahuatl and balam-te in Mayan. It is often still used in Central America as an addition to chocolate drinks.

The field museum may have had this marked wrong, though. If so, I need to set them straight!

Thanks Nat for the correction. Good to know!
